In the August 22 Giants-Carp game, the Giants cruised to a 5-0 win, extending their winning streak. Starting pitcher Yamato Daiki picked up his first professional win as a starter, backed by a two-run homer from Matsumoto Go and a timely hit from Nakayama. The thread lit up with a mix of questions about the manager’s lineup choices and praise for Daiki’s big day.

Giants win again today, and Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki sure tastes great (o^∀^o) (a cheeky dig — savoring the loser's local specialty)

Giants win again today, and ajari-mochi (a Kyoto rice cake, unrelated to Hiroshima — just riffing on the previous post) tastes great too (o^∀^o)

After Arai-san [the Carp manager],
who'd even want that job?
10Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:21:13.18ID:QAs+74z60
Does the Giants even have a real starting rotation?
Why bench Otsuka when he's red hot
and run out Sakamoto batting 5th with Kai catching?
They're overtinkering with everything.

They optioned Takemaru off the roster, so that's the replacement.

If they'd lost, sure, but they won comfortably without allowing a run — that complaint doesn't hold up.

Otsuka's been playing nonstop, so it's probably just a rest day. And they won anyway, so who cares.
Tomorrow's starter is Ogasawara, so Otsuka's back in.

Feels like pitcher Martinez picked up an easy save there.

Congrats to Daiki on his first career win in his first start!
13Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:22:21.96ID:D7YoJi3/0
Shut out two games in a row? That's just weak.
Fans should be furious.

There are bigger things to be angry about than that.
14Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:23:37.32ID:vhg/JBd10
Martinez, picking up a save with a 5-run lead, is the real winner here.

SoftBank's cleanup hitters are on a whole different level, though.

It's silly to even compare the two.

Decision
Winning pitcher: Giants — Daiki (1-0, 0 SV)
Losing pitcher: Hiroshima — Tamamura (1-4, 0 SV)
Save: Giants — Martinez (3-3, 34 SV)
18Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:25:34.90ID:IPDXw9a60
Someone said it earlier, but Daiki's got that classic Showa-era handsome-guy look (a retro, old-school leading-man vibe).

Yamato Daiki:
"Giants fans, please remember the name 'Yamato Daiki' before you head home."

Ah, that makes sense —
Takemaru had been off form, so that checks out.

Sounds like the Carp got chewed out by Fujikawa over a hit-by-pitch, so now they're showing their support by losing to the Giants every single time.
26Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:30:53.48ID:tGFCJ6DF0
The Giants don't hit guys and put them on the injury list, though, right?
37Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:38:31.13ID:88KNCSF00

Abe properly respected his elder, Arai,
but Fujikawa didn't, and that's why he earned Arai's disapproval.

Actually, today Urata already took a pretty scary hit-by-pitch,
though he just barely avoided a serious injury.

Outside of Tigers games played in a dome, they can actually win properly, so they're still hanging in there.
31Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:35:18.28ID:6veCpgQE0
Guess the announcement of the 4th one is getting close
they've sent him down and gotten him properly ready.
33Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:36:38.01ID:jOBvb/eX0
Didn't know the Zombies [a mocking nickname for the lifeless-looking team] were still playing baseball
nothing but half-hearted games from them.
34Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:37:22.28ID:/6nTr0UX0
Say what you want, but Kai's actually calling a good game behind the plate.
35Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:37:24.09ID:DA6tRmDM0
Daiki's surgery set him back time-wise, but he's the same age as a first-year college draftee, so he's still got plenty of runway ahead.
57Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 18:24:02.10ID:xkpUHyxv0
They're strong at Tokyo Dome, huh.
59Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 18:26:57.94ID:1LFDaOu/0
>>57
Actually it's the opposite —
this year they're weak at Tokyo Dome.
They win more at other parks.
The pitching staff is clearly getting hit hard there.
60Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 18:28:10.62ID:FAzZ9+KY0
Guess they don't even do night games on summer-vacation weekends anymore.
87Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 19:35:45.37ID:0p/dTXfu0
>>60
Outdoor day games in summer got scrapped starting this year —
reason being it's just too hot.
95Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 19:53:37.26ID:Xh+/Avtf0
>>60.
They stopped night games at outdoor stadiums in summer because of heatstroke risk. Day games now only happen at domed stadiums (except Seibu's).
Also, for Giants home games, Saturdays still occasionally get a night game, but Sundays are now almost always day games.
66Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 18:39:46.80ID:JivztHaB0
Good for Matsumoto Go — he's managed to succeed as a Giants player in a way even Matsuda couldn't.
69Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 18:51:58.62ID:nkqMlusu0
>>66
Seriously, the guys who were against picking up Matsumoto owe him an apology.
74Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 19:04:26.46ID:DA6tRmDM0
>>66
The only ones who've openly said they've been Giants fans since childhood are pretty much Matsu-Go, Nakayama, and Ishizuka.
Plenty of Tigers fans on this roster though lol
86Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 19:35:43.10ID:9SoHZ7fk0
Even after loading the bases, if it's still just a 1-run game, does that still count as a save?
88Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 19:37:10.36ID:0p/dTXfu0
>>86
Used to be that 2-outs-bases-loaded counted as a 4-run save situation, but under the current rules it's 5 runs.
